Cookoff Rules & Classifications

  • You may enter each of the four categories once.
  • All entries must be in duplicate. One dessert is sampled by the judges with the remaining portions sampled by festival goers bidding in the cookoff auction. The second dessert is auctioned off, with proceeds divided evenly between the entrant and the Lettie Jensen Center. Example: you enter "Cocoa cream cake" in the cake category. You must present two identical "Cocoa cream cakes"—one for judging, one for the auction.
  • All entries must have chocolate as a significant component.
  • Each judged entry is allowed a 15 x 18 display area.
  • Presentation is considered. Elaborate displays do not increase chance of winning.
  • Judging criteria include: creativity, flavor, quality of product, use of chocolate, and appearance. (creative use of healthful substitutions—healthy remakes only)
  • All judging is done blindly with entrants assigned numbers.
  • Containers submitted with entries will not be returned.
  • Submit a typed or neatly written version of the recipe.
  • All entries should be prepared in a sanitary manner. Entrants may be required to taste their entry. Refusal to do so will result in disqualification.
  • Entrants in cookoff receive one free admission to chocolate festival.
  • Return Entry Form to Jensen Center by November 17, 2009
  • Categories: 1. Cakes 2. Pies/Cheesecakes 3. Brownies/Bars 4. Healthy Remakes
  • Each brownie/bar entry must have a minimum of 8-10 servings.
  • Prize Structure for all Categories: 1st - $75, 2nd - $50, 3rd - $25
Ribbons will also be awarded to all three placings in each category
